#OOTD No. 4 | 19th September 2015

Today I was heading to the University of Stirling for an open day and so I decided to do a little outfit of the day. These pieces are some of the new bits and bobs that I found in H&M recently and I hope you love them as much as I do.

Flannel Shirt - H&M £14.99.
Trousers - H&M £7.99.

Necklace - H&M (couldn't find the link but I got it for £3.99).

With this combination I just wore a pair of flat black ankle boots and a black handbag, which I forgot to take pictures of, as usual.

Until next time, my friend.

I know I haven't posted in ages, and that I always do this and then promise to post weekly, and it never happens. So I've decided that I want to post various types of content, more of which will be a bit more like my 'Let's Talk About Life' or 'Amsterdam' posts as opposed to beauty related things. Only because I think I have more to say in more meaningful posts and I enjoy writing them more than beauty posts as I feel that there is only so much I can speak about in that department as I'm no expert. I hope you respect my decision and keep enjoying the content I produce.

Review: Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara

I've seen this mascara dotted around the beauty community since it's release a little while back. I wasn't 100% certain that I'd be a big fan due to the fact that Maybelline mascaras often disappoint me, but this has definitely become a winner with me. Now, I'm not saying that it's the best mascara I've ever tried, but it's certainly something that I'll use.

As far as formula goes it's slightly towards the 'wet' side of things, though it is not anywhere near as wet as the L'Oreal Telescopic mascara. It does have a slight tendency to make your lashes stick to one another and it can clump very slightly. I just sort this by using a lash and brow comb and brush through some parts of my lashes. After doing this it does leave the lashes looking nice and full and fluttery.
I haven't tried using this with another mascara yet, but I think it would work really well with a lengthening mascara.

Overall I'd say that Lash Sensational is a pretty good mascara. I must say, I am quite picky when it comes to mascaras but this will definitely be one that will be used frequently.

You can get Maybelline's Lash Sensational Mascara for £7.99.

June Favourites 2015

I've decided this week to try to keep you in the loop of my new favourite products that I've been using over the past few months. So let's just skip the boring intro and get right into it.

My first favourite has to be the L'Oreal La Palette Nude. It simply just has the perfect eyeshadow shades for a beautiful everyday eye look. It contains 10 eyeshadow shades, 4 of which are shimmery and 6 are matte, making for the perfect mix for a beautiful neutral eye. I have the shade '02 Beige' and there is also a more pink toned palette available. You can find this palette here for £14.99.

Another favourite of mine this month has also been the Revlon Ultra HD Lipstick in 'Rose'. I'm not going to go into much detail about this lipstick as I have already done a review on it linked here. But to be quite frank, it's a damn good lipstick that's perfect for summer. You can find it here for £7.99.

I have also been loving the Maxfactor Creme Puff Blush in 'Alluring Rose'. As you can see I've been quite into rose colours recently because they are just so effortless looking and easy to wear. I have again done a review on this already so I won't go into great detail. You can find my review here to see a more in depth look into the product and you can get it for yourself here for £8.99.

The Maxfactor Colour Corrector Stick  in the green shade. This is targeted to reduce redness and it is by far the most effective green concealer I have had to date. Though it applies green, once blended out it neutralises the redness in the skin and does not leave a green tint. You can find this linked here for £8.99.

My final favourite is the L'Oreal Super Liner Superstar in the black shade. This is perfect for liner along the top lash line as it doesn't smudge even after hours of wear. The nib manages to create the perfect flick (not that I've achieved this very many times due to my lack of skill with winger liner) or even just create a thin or thick line along the lashes. This liner also stays black, rather than fading to a grey colour like so many other liners I've had have done. You can find this for £6.99 here

Thanks for reading this post, I hope you enjoyed! I will hopefully be posting more regularly as I am now on holiday from school so I have time to photograph and write new posts!

Capturing Moments

Photographs. They capture a split second of our existence that we can never again reproduce, a single moment that we will never again be able to experience exactly. But through pictures we can relive those moments again and again, we can experience the same array of emotions that we felt in those split seconds. Photographs, for many are an essential in looking back on the past. They are needed for many to once again look on the face of loved ones who are no longer with us. For many they are also used to look back on themselves in their 'finer times' of life.

Pictures have been used for generations to capture current moments in time that would eventually become history. Without these pictures we wouldn't know exactly how significant historical figures looked and without film we wouldn't know how they moved or spoke. Film is also a way of capturing moments in our past. Through it we can reminisce on our previous years and experience things all over again.

The power of photography and film is now stronger than ever and even through things like Instagram we can look back on certain pictures with just the click of a button. Pictures will always be one of my favourite things in life as they truly allow me to remember what in incredible life I have had so far, and yet there are so many more pictures still to come in my life. There are still many more moments that I will capture and relive time after time. This idea is truly one which for me,  emphasises the sheer power of photography.

Here's to many more moments captured.

This post was inspired by a beautiful quote from Karl Largerfeld - 'Photographs capture a moment that's gone forever, impossible to reproduce'.

Thank you for reading, I hope you enjoyed.

L'Oreal Brow Artist Genius Kit | Review

Despite already having a pretty good brow kit in my house, the 3 for 2 offer on L'Oreal products in Boots meant that I couldn't refuse this beauty. And I have to say, it beats the Sleek Brow Kit by a mile. Overall I love the finish of my brows after I use this; they look natural yet perfected. So lets get into why I love it so much.

In this kit there is a wax on the left and a powder to set it on the right. The wax, however, is not very waxy which is a good thing for those of us with oily skin and it means that you won'd find half way through the day that your eyebrow has melted halfway down your eyelid. It also comes with a spoolie to comb your brows into shape and a surprisingly good set of tweezers.

With this product I had to jump into the deep end a bit and buy it without seeing/trying the colours inside because of Boots' lack of testers. I was a bit worried that the 'medium to dark' shade wouldn't suit my naturally very dark brows, but it in fact just gave my brows a very natural look.
You can see in the picture below that the wax is slightly lighter than the powder which creates a softer edge to your brows, hence making them look more natural. The darker powder also allows you to go for the more defined, bolder brows if that's the look you're going for.

Overall I'd say that I'm very happy with this product as it's versatile and easy to use and also makes your brows look beautiful. I haven't seen this been mentioned on very many blogs but I think that it's worth a try if you're looking for a new brow kit.

You can find the L'Oreal Brow Artist Genius Kit for £9.99 here.

Revlon Ultra HD Lipstick | Review

While I was browsing the aisles of Boots I came across, what looked to me, like a new release from Revlon. I don't think that I have seen these before because if I had I'm sure my inner magpie would have drawn me to them instantly due to the classy shiny packaging. Anyway, this is the Revlon Ultra HD Lipstick in the shade 'Rose'.

Now initially the packaging and design of this product reminded me of the Revlon Colorburst Lip Butters, which I don't have the fondest memories of, but I was pleasantly surprised. Revlon claims that they are weightless, wax free and true to colour. They also have a gel base which allows a smoother application and finish. I have to say I didn't particularly notice a great deal of a difference with the finish of this product compared to other lipsticks but I guess it's a nice idea. This felt almost like a lip balm on first application, but throughout the day tended to dry out a little bit. However a little dab of lip balm solved that issue with no problems.

As far as being weightless, I have to say, I agree with Revlon. This was definitely not one of those lipsticks that I was conscience I was wearing and in fact I forgot I was wearing it quite a lot of the time. I have to tell you that this does wear off throughout eating and drinking but because of the colour and formula I found that it was easy to reapply without a mirror.

The colour selection of this range is pretty descent. This is one of the more neutral colours of the range, and I absolutely adore it. It is the perfect 'my lips but better' shade which gives your lips the perfect balance of a neutral pink. Many of the other colours in the range are quite vibrant and having swatched a few I decided to give them a miss as many of them had fine glitter through them, which I'm not a fan of. I also was unsure how the other shades would wear compared to this one because when this comes off a little it's not all that noticeable whereas I'm sure the others would be a bit more obvious.

Overall I am really pleased with this purchase and in my books it was money well spent. And for me, it's the perfect spring/summer everyday shade, despite being at times a little dry.

You can find the Revlon Ultra HD Lipstick in the shade 'Rose' on the Boots website for £7.99 here.

Bold Lips | Rimmel Lasting Finish by Kate Lipstick

I've got to admit, I never was the biggest fan of bold lips and I would much prefer to go for a dark berry shade than a coral or red, but I think that this lipstick has changed my mind. I picked up the Rimmel Lasting Finish by Kate Lipstick in the shade '37' a few weeks ago and I know already that this will definitely be something that I reach for frequently throughout spring and summer, so I thought I'd let you all know about it.

I'd describe this colour as a somewhere between a reddish coral with a hint of orange. I don't know if that made any sense but the swatch in the picture above is really true to colour in person. I didn't think that this colour would really suit my colouring but surprisingly I really liked how this looked on me! I think that this colour would look really nice on various skin tones but I think that you're best to try it out on yourself to see how you like it.

There is more of a matte finish to this lipstick and unfortunately that means that after a while it can begin to feel a bit dry. However, on first application it feels very moisturising. Using a hydrating lip balm before I used this did help a little bit but I think that the slight dryness will always be there.
Despite the dryness, the colour of this lipstick lasts really quite well. It comes off through eating and drinking but leaves a stain on the lips that is really quite pretty. I haven't experienced any bleeding onto the area around my mouth either with this lipstick which is great due to the intense pigmentation it has. Because it's so pigmented I recommend that you use a lip brush while applying this product so that you end up with a super precise, defined line.
Overall, I'd say that the formula of this product is quite good, if a little dry, but that can be easily sorted with some lip balm.

I'd say that this product was definitely a win for me and I imagine that it will feature in a favourite or two in the coming months. If you give it a go I'd love to hear what you have to say about it.

You can get the Rimmel Lasting Finish by Kate Lipstick in the shade '37' on Feel Unique for £5.49.

Revlon Lash Potion by Grow Luscious | Review & Swatches

For the past few months I've been giving this mascara a go and I feel like it's finally time to tell you what I think about it. Let's just cut the chitter-chatter that I usually have and just jump straight into the actual review.

This mascara comes with a very large, full wand, which is great for attaining volume in the lashes but not so great for bottom lash application. Though I'd probably prefer a slightly smaller wand, I'll put up with this one because it makes my lashes look pretty great.
The formula of this mascara is neither too wet nor too dry. For me, it's just the perfect consistency to make your lashes look amazing. It both lengthens while providing great volume, but it doesn't make your lashes look clumpy and disgusting. I usually vary the number of coats I apply between 1 and 2 coats, just depending on how I feel.
This formula is also waterproof, meaning it doesn't usually smudge around your eye. Now, I know that the thought of waterproof mascara might frighten some people with the possibility of ripping out your lashes while trying to remove it. But trust me on this, it comes off no bother whatsoever, which is great.
It isn't so great however, at holding a curl all that well. I don't know if it's my lash curlers or what but my lashes never seem to hold a curl. That's about the only con about this mascara.

Now onto the swatches. I have to say, my lashes weren't cooperating all that well today and they were looking pretty horrible, but please excuse that. Also, I have not filled in my tight-line with an eyeliner or curled my eyelashes but if I had, they would've looked better.

First coat

Second coat

You can pick up the Revlon Lash Potion by Grow Luscious here for £9.99.

That's all for today's post. Thank you for reading this and I hope you enjoyed.

Change

Change. It is something that the majority of us, as a species, rebel against. Sometimes a little change can be for the better, sometimes for the worst, but we will never know until we experience change. I'm not the biggest fan of change because I never know what to expect, just the same as a lot of you, but it is something that I am learning to accept.
I've had various changes in my life; from school transitions, to friends and now leading onto university. I'm going to have to accept the change that will be happening over the next few years in both my own and my peers' transition to college and university. I'm not going to lie to you and say that it'll be easy not to see the people I have been with every day for the majority of my life, because it won't be, because change usually never is, but this change has to happen.

I am trying to learn to embrace change rather than resist it, because in my eyes everything happens for a reason. We can't keep resisting the change that happens all the way through our lives because it is going to happen whether we like it or not.

Thank you for taking time out of your day to read this post, I hope you enjoyed.

Maxfactor Creme Puff Blush | Review

Recently I've seen the Maxfactor Creme Puff Blush dotted about the beauty community with raved reviews, so I thought I better give them a try. For the past few weeks now I've been giving these blushes a go to see how I like their application etc and to see if they were anything special. Boy was I pleasantly surprised. These are also meant to be a good dupe for the Hourglass Ambient Blush.

As a person with oily skin, I usually opt for a matte blush or one that isn't too shimmery, but as you can hopefully see from the pictures they are far from matte. Do not let this scare you! Though they may look very shimmery in the pan they simply give your cheeks a little highlight that doesn't look too much.

I picked up the colours 'Gorgeous Berries' and 'Alluring Rose' because I thought that they were probably the best colours for my skin tone. So lets go into the individual colours in a bit more depth.

First lets start with 'Gorgeous Berries'. This is a colour that some people might be a bit afraid of because it is so deep and pigmented, but if a tiny amount is applied it means that you can blend it to your desired shade. This colour is a beautiful berry colour with a little bit of shimmer that adds a nice little pop of colour to the cheeks.

Moving onto 'Alluring Rose'. This one has to be my favourite of the two by far. Though it looks a bit plain and boring it is actually far from in on the cheeks. It gives the perfect shimmery, highlighted, rosy cheek, which I just adore. This gives a really beautiful warmth to the face that is perfect for everyday wear. I just adore this shade.

Overall I'd say that you'll be seeing these two in future favourites posts and I also may well have to pay another visit to boots to pick up another shade or two because I just love the formula of these blushes.

You can find the Maxfactor Creme Puff Blush here for £8.99.

Amsterdam

In my opinion, Amsterdam is mainly known for the wrong reasons. What I've found is that the majority of people think of either the Red Light District, the sex industry or the legalisation of cannabis when they hear 'Amsterdam'. But that's not the Amsterdam I saw when I visited this week. I saw the beautiful architecture and culture of the Dutch, I saw the history embedded in the walls of the buildings and I absorbed the ambiance.
I now see Amsterdam as a city with beauty and character, unlike any other. Unlike many cities, you get a feeling of security as you walk through the empty streets at night that are lined with bicycles. The locals that I met on my travels were all very accommodating and helped me where they could, which I appreciated very much.
The scenery as you walk the streets in Amsterdam is another one of its wonders. I don't think I saw a single part of Amsterdam that was not beautiful in one way or another, and that's one of the main things I loved about this place. From the canals to the bridges to even a simple bench, they all make for a picturesque view. And the leaning buildings are just something else altogether.
There is an unlimited number of things to do in Amsterdam also, from canal boat tours to museums, to the Anne Frank house and The Fault in Our Stars bench. Even just walking the streets or along a canal can pass time. We never ran out of things to do here and I think we even could have stayed an extra few days. Amsterdam has provided me with one of my favourite, if not my favourite, place that I have visited so far in the world. I have been absorbed into their culture and diversity and I hope to visit again soon.

Until we meet again, Amsterdam.

Let's Talk About Life

I know that this is a change from my usual beauty and fashion related posts but I felt like writing a bit more of a deep, thoughtful post for a little change. Recently there has been quite a lot going on around me that has encouraged me to re-evaluate what I want to do with my life.

You may or may not have heard of Jak Trueman. Over the past few months he has rightfully become quite a big deal in my community, this is because 15 year old Jak is dying from cancer. He is a complete inspiration due to the way he is dealing with this tragic news and also because he is being so incredibly selfless. There are pages set up called 'Jak's Journey' on facebook and twitter that you can follow which will be linked at the end of this post. There is also a 'Just Giving' page which was set up by his mum where you can donate to Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research. This is such a good cause and it would be greatly appreciated if you could donate by clicking the link at the end of this post.

Another thing that has led me to having this re-evaluation is Anne Frank's diary. In February, as part of my Christmas, I'll be visiting Amsterdam to visit the Anne Frank house, so naturally I had to reread her diary. It really just puts into perspective that the people that were killed were real people with real stories. And it really just makes you realise how much we take what we have for granted and how it could all end at the drop of a hat.

Sorry if this post was a bit depressing, but I just had to express how I was feeling and I thought that Jak's amazing story had to be shared.

Procrastinating Beauty Blogger Tag!

So I've seen this tag dotted about a few places recently and I thought that it perfectly suited me to a T because I am so so so lazy when it comes to some aspects of makeup and beauty. Anyway, here's my Procrastinating Beauty Blogger Tag.

1. Name a beauty regimen you rarely do.
When it comes to body skincare I am ridiculously bad. I rarely moisturise or use a body scrub, I know, I'm disgusting. I'm so ashamed right now.

2. Is washing your make-up brushes something that you do regularly?
I'm seriously starting to regret choosing this tag. No, it is not something I do regularly. I know I should wash them weekly but I just simply don't have the time. Its not like I never wash them, I wash them when they feel like they need washing. I'm not an animal.

3. How long will you last with chipped nail polish?
It really depends on the chip size to be honest. If it's a tiny little chip then I can put up with it but if its a big chip then I either fill it in or change what's on my nails. So if it's a small chip then maybe a week, for a big chip maybe a couple of days.

4. How long will you put off buying/replacing a beauty product, even if you need it?
I'll put off buying a product for quite a while because I'm not the biggest fan of spending money, but if it's something essential like concealer then I try to get my hands on it ASAP.

5. What is your worst beauty habit?
Hm, there are probably quite a few but I'd say a main one is not using a lip liner when applying a bold lip. I know, that's not all that great, but in fact I don't actually own a lip liner.

6. Name something non-beauty related that you put off doing at this time.
Revision for my prelims. I know I need to revise but there are so many other things that I'd rather do than revise.

7. When going out somewhere do you leave getting ready to the last minute?
Yes, I most definitely do.

8. Can you commit to spending bans?
I can when it comes to makeup and things like that but my main weak spot is iTunes. I just cannot stop buying new music for my phone and I spend far too much on iTunes every month.

9. How organised are your makeup and nail polish collections?
My nail polish collection is not organised in the slightest and my nail polishes are all just thrown into a big box. My makeup is what I like to call 'organised chaos'. I have a system that works in my head, but it doesn't really work with other peoples. But as far as I see it, as long as I know where everything is, that's all that matters.

That's all for this post! Thank you for reading and I hope you enjoyed it!

The next few weeks for me will be quite busy so I'm afraid that I'm not 100% sure when I'll be able to post next.

Sleek Brow Kit Review

I, just as many other girls do, love my eyebrows and when they're on point I just couldn't feel any better. So recently while on search for a new eyebrow product in Superdrug I came across this Brow Kit from Sleek. I've been using this for a good few weeks now and I really like it so I've decided that I'm going to do a little review of it today.

Let's start off with the packaging. It's classic sleek packaging, which is clean and very much like Nars packaging. Now let's move onto the actual product.

This kit comes with a pigmented wax on one side and a powder on the other side. It also contains two brushes and a set of mini tweezers. I tried the brushes and they weren't very good so I'd recommend simply using an angled eyeshadow brush. When I use this product I take the wax to the middle and the arch of my brows and then I go over all of my brows lightly with the powder. Both of these products are very pigmented and the wax keeps your brows in place all day.

This product comes in four shades: light, dark, extra dark and black. I am aware that there is more of a selection for people with dark hair which isn't so great for those of you with light hair. Above I have the shade 'dark'. To be honest I wasn't aware that there was an 'extra dark' option but it still works well with my dark hair because we're meant to go a shade lighter for brow products.

This product is also very versatile as you can create a very structured, sharp brow by using more wax all over the brow or you can create a natural looking brow by only using only the powder with a light hand. This is good if you're a bit like me and occasionally like a little change with your brows.

You can get the Sleek Brow Kit here for £8.50.

#OOTD | No. 2

So I quite enjoyed doing my outfit of the day last time I did it so I've decided to upload a new one every few weeks so I can add a bit of fashion to this blog so we have a bit of variety going on. Lets also hope that I can find all the links to the items I'm wearing so you know where to get the different pieces.

Jeans
I picked these black skinny jeans up a good few months back from New Look for about a tenner. I feel like black skinny jeans are a staple item for everyone's clothes collection. You can pick these up here for £12.99.

Top
I think this colour is beautiful for this time of year and it just looks gorgeous. I picked this up in Topshop and they always seem to have this top out in different colours for different seasons. You can find it here for £16.

Necklace
I absolutely love this necklace and it gives the perfect boho-type look. I picked this up in Accessorize and you can even get matching pieces for it. You can get it here for £6.

Cardigan
This has become one of the most worn items that I have recently and I absolutely love it. It keeps me nice and cosy while still being fashionable. I picked this up at Forever 21, and as always I cannot find the link, I seriously think the Forever 21 website has a hatred towards me. Anyway, I found this one which is kind of similar and it is again from Forever 21.

Thanks for reading this post, I hope you enjoyed! More fashion-type posts should be coming your way soon. I also have a few reviews that are coming in the near future.

Are you feeling blue? Well, indigo really. | NOTD

Now that Christmas and New Year have come to an end we all just want to get past January as quick as possible so we can get into Spring. But I still like to take advantage of the darker nail and lip colours while I can. This week for New Year I decided to go for a dark sparkly number on my nails and I'm going to show you what products I used to achieve this look.

Of course you need to use a top coat to prevent staining your natural nail. I applied two coats of 'Shock n Roll' from Fearne Cotton's nail polish collection. This was such a pleasant surprise as it turned out to be beautiful and opaque. It looks more of a blue in the pictures but it really varies between blue and purple, so I'd class it as an indigo. Over the top of that I put Barry M's nail paint in 'Diamond Glitter'. And then, of course I applied the good old trustee Seche Vite top coat to even out my nails and make them last without chipping.

Thanks for reading this post, I hope you enjoyed. I just thought I'd give you a little post until I can give you a review or something of that sort.

I hope you all had a great New Year!
